HERMES ROMERO
Handcrafted Colombian Leather Campechana Hammocks by Hermes Romero
Discover the work of Hermes Romero, a talented artisan, poet, and songwriter from Paz de Ariporo, Colombia. Hermes specializes in crafting handmade leather hammocks, known as campechanas, which embody timeless design, high quality, and deep cultural heritage. Each piece is created in collaboration with his community, supporting around fifteen local families who preserve this traditional craft.
Hermes’ artisan hammocks are made from carefully selected cowhide or buffalo hide, tanned with chrome, and sun-dried for exceptional durability and comfort. Every hammock is cut and finished by hand, forming the iconic grid pattern with no material wasted. Featuring three components—the center panel (paño), long leather strings, and the cabuyeras ends, each hammock takes 2–3 days to complete, showcasing true artisan craftsmanship.
In 2014, the United Nations and UNESCO recognized the Colombian Campechana as one of the world’s most outstanding crafts, honoring its cultural value and artistry. Today, these hammocks bring heritage and modern style into any space—whether on a garden patio, by a pool, or as a luxury home furnishing indoors.
By choosing a Hermes Romero hammock, you not only bring home a unique and functional design but also support local artisans and sustainable traditions. This is more than just furniture, it’s a meaningful connection to art, culture, and community.
